Environment and the Economy is the Base of World xistence - Mr. Charitha Herath, Secretary, Ministry of Mass Media and Information

Environment and the Economy has become the base of world existence said Mr. Charitha Herath, Secretary, Ministry of Mass Media and Information and the Chairman, Central Environment Authority. Addressing the launching ceremony of the eco-friendly magazine, “Mihithuru” published monthly by the Lake House, the pioneer in journalism he further said, that it is the goal of H.E. the President, Mahinda Rajapaksa to transform this country in to a country of green and the Lake House is the pathway to reach that goal while securing the freedom of the country, democracy and popularity.
Mr, Bandula Padmakumara, Chairman, ANCL presented the first copy of the “Mihithuru” magazine to Mr. Charitha Herath, the Chief Guest of the occasion.
At present, it is well-known in the world that Sri Lanka posses the highest level of environmental literacy. He further pointed out that environment has become the talk of the international world in place of economy. Environment and Mass Media are two closely related subjects. We cannot take our views on environment to public without Media. The focus of discussion in today’s world also has changed. Earlier, we talked only about the Economy, but today the talk of the world has become Environment and Economy. It decides the world existence as well as the existence of the future child. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of a country participates most in international conferences and then the Minister of Environment.
Carbondioxide we exhale blends with the air and it has no boundaries. This air is inhaled by green plants, Therefore, the United Nations has adopted a proposal to calculate the amount of carbon exhale of a country and to charge the countries with the highest amount.
